If I opened that window for you, what would you see? The tint of your vision is different from mine, and I, in putting the words on the paper, can see them only through my fingers. Every word, for me, is couched in time and place. So irremoveable. A frame that is original and impenetrable and that I long to tear away. What would you see? I can't know, expect through asking you, and that's a courage I don't yet have.

Put the edge of the scalpel under my skin and lever up the gristle that has grown around the joints and pry away the bones that are getting in the way. See the patterns in the oily pus? That is my life, recorded. Scrape it out. Ball it up. Throw is away. Splat. In my spatter of my insides on the floor, maybe you can read the future. When your body is carved open and displayed in such a way, there is only one possible tomorrow. This method of augury is incredibly reliable.

in the palace garden in the crosshatched shade the scent of flowers makes a tangible blanket the sound of water is enough to summon wetness the knife in the grapefruit slides out the drops of juice roll back until they gather at the base- swelling, dripping the fingers scoop the pit from the peach lips suck the sweetness from under the nails the wine is poured and it is the only sound cascading drowning the cup is set upon the tray the grapefruit is bitter the peach is bruised the sound of the water is never enough

everything smells like dirt tilled ground freshly unfrozen dust in the air clouds the horizon the sunsets more vivid there’s a breathable fungus I’ve read about I worry the soiled air will invade my lungs mississippi valley ground gain sentience in me still it’s sweeter than the scent of snow driving along quiet roads there are so many tractors lit up trawling late into the night making up for lost springtime
